Designer
On a typical day, Alicia Alizadeh wanders the streets of New York City exploring and abstracting the world around her, seeing jewelry in everything that she sees. Drawing inspiration from things like washing machine handles, graffiti covered buildings, found objects, and splattered paint on decaying subway walls to honey bees, Ernst Haeckel drawings, and her childhood memories of Nebraska.
She sketches her ideas on receipts, copy paper or anything else she can find while riding the subway home or fervently carves out her ideas directly into a block of wax at her Harlem studio. Through an extensive design process she refines her ideas to create enchanting, simple, and sophisticated jewelry. Often times using a 4,000 year old process called Lost-Wax Casting to create them.
Alicia holds a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from New York University, an A.A.S. in Jewelry Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology and is a former student of revered artisan jeweler Fred de Vos.
Craftsmanship
All of Alicia's jewelry is made in New York City utilizing traditional craftsmanship as well as new technologies. She strives to only support local, ethical, eco-friendly suppliers and manufacturers in all areas of her business. However, she also understands “going green” is a journey not a destination.
